"Progress . . not perfection"
To the Friends of Progress House - We're an organization that saves lives, pure and simple. Technically speaking we are a long-term, social-model for high-risk, predominantly homeless, adult men. Our residents are just beginning their recovery process from the maladies of alcoholism and drug addiction. Progress House has built its reputation in the recovery community based upon the innovative experiential programs with an emphasis on individual responsibility. Each new man must be sober and drug free upon admittance. Thereafter they are tested for alcohol and drugs on a periodic and random basis. He must get a job and begin paying for his room and board within a month after arrival. Approximately 65% of our total revenue is derived from the residients' rent proceeds.
In addition, a resident is required to totally immerse himself in a nationally recognized twelve-step program that calls for the individual to attend frequent meetings, obtain a sponsort and read the required materials.
For the most part, the residents are self-governing and they take care of the House through household tasks. We ask that each resident commit for ninety days minimum. We currently average 65 to 70 residents and our success rate is averaging 30% - a significant achievement in this field. All of the men are subject to alcohol and drug tests at any time and if testing results are positive they are immediately expelled and cannot apply for re-admission for a minimum of six months.
Progress House is fortunate to have a staff composed of totally dedicated personnel, most of whom are in recovery themselves with many years of sobriety. Consequently, they are familiar with the residents' sets of problems in conquering alcoholism and addiction. Our goal is to help our residents to recover from alcoholism and their drug addictions and to return to full participation in community life. We are asking your help in contributing to the mission of Progress House. "This is the place where miracles happen every day."
